Resource & Referral List

An essential tool in any trauma-informed lawyer’s toolkit is the ability to refer clients to other supportive resources. Providing supportive referrals is one way of applying the trauma-informed principles of choice (by giving the client options for dealing with the impacts of trauma), collaboration (with both the client and with other service providers) and empowerment (by treating the client as more than their legal issue and giving them the opportunity to direct their own healing beyond the limited legal remedies available). It’s also an important tool for lawyers in maintaining the boundaries of their role and avoiding burnout. This non-exhaustive list provides a starting point for lawyers in New Brunswick. We encourage lawyers to become familiar with the resources and services available in the region where they practice, and to share them with each other.
