Sexual violence is a complex issue with far reaching impacts on victims, their families and friends, service providers and communities. SVNB has developed a range of professional development, training and public education programs to provide professionals, service providers and community members with specialized understanding, knowledge, skills, interventions and approaches to respond effectively to sexual violence.
Training programs are intended for those who work with victims and survivors of sexual violence and work in the field of prevention and education such as police, health professionals, counsellors, teachers/guidance counsellors, intimate partner violence crisis interveners, victim services, and others. All professional development and training programs are based on current knowledge and promising practices.

TRAINING PROGRAMS
Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training (SACIT)
5 days | Training on sexual assault, its causes, impacts and tools to respond effectively – includes the legal and medical aspects of sexual assault, as well as childhood sexual abuse and adult survivors.
Facilitator Training: Sexual Violence Prevention and Awareness
3 days | This trauma-informed facilitation training equips and prepares individuals with best practices for facilitating discussions and workshops about sexual violence. Being a trauma-informed facilitator is essential in creating a safe and supportive environment for all participants, especially survivors of trauma. This training uses our Uprooting Rape Culture Toolkit and provides information, activities, best practices, and resources for facilitating.

Counselling Survivors of Sexual Violence: Training for Therapists and Counsellors
5 days | Training designed to provide counsellors with in-depth, specialized, trauma-informed training for working with survivors of sexual violence.
Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation
Training for service providers on identifying sexual exploitation and trafficking, the cycle of exploitation, technology-facilitated sexual violence and how to offer specialized support to survivors.
Maintain: Trauma Informed Principles for Trauma Exposed Workplaces
1 day | This workshop look at strategies that individuals and organizations can implement to mitigate the impacts of vicarious trauma, empathic strain, and burnout.
Cultivate: Trauma Informed Workplaces
A four-day training that helps leaders in trauma-exposed organizations apply trauma-informed principles to their policies, practices, and culture to build sustainable, ethical systems of collective care.
Improving Outcomes
Specialized training for law enforcement on trauma-informed sexual assault response and investigations.
Trauma-Informed Prosecutions
2 days | Specialized training for Crown Prosecutors on trauma-informed prosecutions and trials.
Adjudicating Complaints of Sexual Violence on Campus
2 days | This training supports post-secondary institutions in delivering adjudication processes that are trauma-informed, fair, and survivor-centered. Participants will examine best practices for adjudicating sexual violence cases in ways that account for the complexities of trauma and actively challenge myths and stereotypes.
Project Soundcheck
Created in Ottawa, this training supports volunteers and staff at festivals and large events in addressing sexual violence through bystander intervention.
